I can’t believe the end of summer is here! With Labor Day weekend coming up this weekend, summer will soon be officially over. Many of our students have already gone back to school and the rest will be back on Tuesday when we resume our fall lessons. It’s been a busy, but exciting and great summer for me. I’m so happy to return to blogging after taking a brief hiatus to deal with some website technical issues. I am also thrilled to announce that Winterhalter Music has a new piano and guitar teacher, Leila King.

Leila has lived in the Washington DC area for most of her life and loves music and teaching. Prior to teaching with Winterhalter Music, she worked for many years as a preschool teacher. She brings the same kindness, warmth, patience, and enthusiasm that she used when working with preschoolers to her piano and guitar students in their lessons. I am so excited to have her join our phenomenal team of teachers! My interview with Leila is included below:

1. Describe your teaching style.

My teaching style is very student centered. I like to observe students as they play to determine how they will learn best. I try to relate the material that they are learning to their own personal experience so that they can better understand the information they are receiving. I also strive to be positive and encouraging towards my students so that they will feel comfortable coming to me with any questions or concerns that they might have.

2. What is your favorite thing about teaching?

My favorite thing about teaching is being able to impart the knowledge that I have to my students and to watch them use it in their own unique way. I find it incredibly inspiring to be able to help them develop talents and skills that they will be able to use throughout their lives.

3. What do you hope your students will get out of taking lessons from you?

I hope that they will really enjoy their lessons and want to use what they learn for their own personal enjoyment whether they decide to play in a band, record their own music, or just want to be able to entertain their friends and family.

4. What is your favorite music to play and listen to?

I love all types of music, but my favorite music to play and listen to is jazz.

5. What do you like to do in your free time?

I love to be outdoors. I like to bike, hike, and take long walks. I also love to play sports such as basketball, tennis, and softball.

Thanks so much for reading! You can find out more information about Leila in her bio. She is currently accepting new students, so if you are interested in starting lessons with her or with one of our other wonderful teachers, please reach out to us.
