Summer Musical Destinations for Children

For those of you reading in the United States, I hope you had a wonderful 4th of July last week! I personally enjoyed a nice long weekend getaway in Virginia Beach with my husband. Last year around the 4th, I was about to get married in my wedding ceremony that took place on July 5th. I can’t believe it’s been a whole year since I married my wonderful husband. Boy does time fly.

I imagine that many of you are taking advantage of your children’s summer vacation and are taking the time to travel. For anyone still making travel plans for the remainder of the summer, why not travel somewhere with child friendly musical activities?

The following are three of my top picks if you’d like to go somewhere where your kids can experience music while on vacation.

#1: New York City

New York is a bustling city filled with culture. There are museums galore and so much music. When I go to New York, I love to catch a Broadway show. While there’s a very wide gamut of shows, many of them are kid friendly. Check out this link to find out which shows are appropriate for kids.

While you’re there you can go to a free outdoor summer concert. There are literally free concerts for kids that take place just about every day. Click here for more information.

#2: Nashville, TN

Nashville is well known as the home of country music. While in Nashville you should definitely check out the Country Music Hall of Fame. This is a family friendly museum that delves into everything about country music. I love it that they have free instrument demonstrations along with free songwriter sessions. Take a peek at the calendar to see what youth and family programs they have coming up.

You can also go to the Grand Ole Opry, and see a show. They feature up and coming artists and superstars alike. Don’t miss the Johnny Cash museum where children 5 and under get in for free.

#3: Washington, DC

Finally, I recommend sticking around in our neck of the woods. If you live in the DC area, it’s easy to take a “staycation”. If you’re reading this from somewhere else in the world, I invite you to visit the capital of the United States.

There are too many free summer concerts in DC, Maryland, and Virginia for me to count! You can hear a military band, catch a concert at the capital or a monument, or even listen to jazz at the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden. I still can’t believe all of these amazing concerts are free! We are sure lucky here.

Another awesome venue for summer concerts is Wolf Trap. It’s an outdoor venue with covered seating and lawn seats (my personal favorite because you can bring a picnic dinner and gaze at the stars while enjoying beautiful music). Many of the performances like “Disney Fantasia Live” coming up this weekend, are wonderful for kids. During the daytime Wolf Trap holds Children’s Theater in the Woods performances which include dance, theater, and music specifically geared towards kids.

Have you been to any of these cities or the venues I recommend? Do you have other cities or child friendly activities to share with our readers? Leave a comment below, and share your thoughts. Thanks so much for reading! If you haven’t already, please subscribe to the newsletter and “like us” on Facebook. Have a brilliant day!

Sincerely,

Cassie
