Today is the start of a new blog series, the Winterhalter Music Teacher Showcase. In addition to sharing tips to make the most of your music lessons, I’ll also be showcasing Winterhalter Music’s wonderful teachers, so you can get to know us better. I am first up. The following is a brief interview with myself:

1. What is your favorite thing about teaching?

Wow — it’s so hard for me to pick one favorite thing about teaching. I absolutely love teaching– not just music lessons, really anything where I can form a connection with my students and see them grow and enjoy themselves over time. Teaching is so rewarding. It’s amazing to see someone who knew nothing about music have fun playing pieces and feel a sense of accomplishment after learning a difficult piece or mastering a difficult concept. I also love it when my students become more independent and can learn pieces on their own.

2. How do you motivate your students?

First of all, I make the lessons fun and engaging. If a student is having fun they will feel motivated. I teach my students how to play the music that they love. I keep things positive no matter what. I’m also a big fan of offering stickers when students have mastered a difficult piece.

3. What do you hope your students will get out of taking lessons from you?

Ultimately I want them to develop a lifelong love of music! This is possible with any student no matter how long they continue their musical study and no matter how innately musical they are. I hope that my students will fondly remember their lessons with me and will keep music a part of their lives forever.

4. What is your favorite music to play and listen to?

I love playing classical music. Some of my favorite composers are Chopin, Beethoven, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Copland, and Mozart- just to name a few. As far as listening to music, I like pop and country the best.

5. What are some fun facts that people might not know about you?

  • I moved around a lot growing up. I’ve lived in Kansas, Wisconsin, Nevada, Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts (for a summer), Paris (a semester abroad), DC, and Maryland.
  • I am an avid skier and worked as a ski instructor one winter.
  • I am planning a July 2013 wedding. My fiancé proposed in a hot air balloon at over 3000 feet!

Thanks for reading this post! I hope you’ve learned more about me. If you enjoyed this post, please share it with your friends and subscribe to the newsletter. In the comments, tell me if there’s anything else you’d like to know — ask away.

Have a lovely day!

Sincerely,

Cassie
